A message from our President

Dear Players, Supporters and Friends.

First of all I hope you and your families are well. Not living in London does isolate you from many effects of Corona Virus Lockdown. If you are not having the best of times I do sympathise and hope we all get through this soon.

Our season has come to a sudden & premature close with England Hockey and the Leagues making their end of season calculations before all matches could be played. Regrettably I can’t see how Hockey can be restarted for a while. All I can do is congratulate those teams who have gained promotion, applaud those who played well and just missed out, hoping for a final push and commiserate with those who ended up relegated.

Hockey is also so much more than just results on the pitch and the lack of social interaction is quite startling. We by nature are gregarious creatures and we are all suffering our own Hockey withdrawal symptoms. I really look forward to when we can meet in the Bar and my 1st pint of Doom Bar in the battered Tankard with friends. How and when we are allowed to do this remains to be seen, but for a while our ability to socialise just as we want to is going to be somewhat different. Our Hockey Club is a gathering of all age groups and I wonder what restrictions we will face this autumn.

Like many I celebrated a Birthday without the ability to host a party and as it was an important milestone – my 60th – I thought I would share a few photos of my journey so far Age 2, 22, 32, 60). Methinks belated Birthday drinks on the President might be a good start to a new season. Boris permitting of course. More will follow if we are allowed to congregate socially.

In the absence of the cancelled end of season Dinner and Awards night we are still delighted to announce the winners of the Player & Team Awards. Well done and congratulations to the winners. Presentation of prizes themselves will be held over to the next Dinner which could perhaps be in the Autumn.

I must pay special thanks also to the Chairman Neil and his Committee who along with the Trust and the Centre are working to protect the Facility and the Club. Management and decisions carry on and much is happening behind the scenes.

May I wish you a safe time, Keep the Fitness going and hope to see you all soon.
