Broderick’s performance lifts L4s

L4s have leap-frogged two teams to rise up to 10th from the bottom of Middlesex Div 1 thanks to only their second win of the season.

“With some 90% possession in the first half we could have easily been winning 4 or 5 nil, but we just couldn’t find the goal,” said captain and goalkeeper Helen ‘Hells’ Argyrou. “It was the same in the second half; we ran rings round them with our passing and we set the press beautifully each time, they were unable to get past us.”

The efforts of the 11-strong squad away at Ashford were finally rewarded as Michelle Joubert showed her skill and swiped a beautiful high shot over the keeper and into the back of the net: 1-0.
Playing without several regulars and welcoming mother-and-daughter combo Karen and Megan Lam, L4s did not let their foot off the gas. Just a few minutes later, Gill Broderick  – also playing her first game for the team this season – capped off a Woman of the Week performance with a solid left-post strike to put the victory beyond doubt: 2-0.

Next up for the team; fellow strugglers NPL at home.
