Trent Park today is enjoyed by the general public for its variety of outdoor pursuits, but also for its wildlife and unique countryside atmosphere, so close to the suburbs of London.
The sheer size of the park - nearly 1,000 acres - means that it is always possible to find solitude, even in the middle of summer. Whilst the Cockfosters entrance receives most visitors because of its car parking facilities, the north-eastern and southern parts of the park are extremely peaceful. Indeed, there are several fields to the west of Snakes Lane which have very few visitors at any time, and can easily be reached from either the Hockey Centre or from the gate opposite Oakwood underground station.
The Trent Park Equestrian Centre provides excellent riding facilities for all standards, and the Trent Park Golf Club is a good quality public course. Just behind the Hockey Centre is a children's animal corner with pigs, sheep, goats, rabbits, birds and other small animals. Regular events are held in Trent Park, with summer fireworks concerts, the Fun Run, and a steam rally.
The park provides a wonderful environment for walking, exercising dogs, riding horses and running.
Wildlife is abundant, and a population of muntjac deer is a reminder of the park's origins.
Whilst most visitors to the Hockey Centre are unlikely to concern themselves with the wider features of Trent Park, its attractions are many, varied, and an oasis of peace in a busy world.
