Changes to age groups in Summer term

In the summer term, we move everyone into their age groups for next season.  This gives the coaches a chance to start work on the squads for next year.
The biggest change is for those in year 7, who move to the 10.45am session and year 9 who move to the 12.30 session.  However, note changes in timings for the first week only, see (2) below

School years 1 & 2 – U8s    9am – 10.30
school years  3 & 4 – U10s   9am – 10.30
School years 5 & 6 – U12s   9am – 10.30
School years 7 & 8 – U14s, 10.45 – 12.15
School years 9 and above – U16s, 12.30 – 2pm

The school years given are the school years your child is currently in, NOT the year they are in, in September.

A few years ago we moved to an annual fee which has made admin much easier and was widely welcomed by parents. So we are continuing with the annual system.

  • Under 12s (up to and including school year 7) – £170
  • Over 12s (school years 8 and above) – £200 (includes Sunday and weekday sessions)

Payment can be paid in one lump sum or in two installments as follows:

  • U12s – £120 in September, £50 in January
  • Over 12s – £130 in September, £70 in January

If you have problems paying in two lump sums, particularly if you have a more than one child playing at Southgate, please contact the junior administrator so that we can organise an alternative payment structure for you.

Please complete your SHC Junior Membership form 16-17  and return it to us by 30 Sept with your payment.

Question: What do I pay if I am playing regularly in an adult teams?

Pay your adult fees which will cover membership, adult games and adult training. Then pay junior training/match fees of £70 to the junior section.

Question: What do I pay if I am playing occasionally in adult teams?

Pay your junior membership and fees (£200) and individual match fees will be collected for adult games.

We recommend everyone wears shin pads and a gum shield. We have these available to buy in our shop which is open on some Sundays, advertised in advance. Most players have their own sticks, but we have a supply for those that don’t. Players should wear comfortable sports gear and trainers, not studs.

The coaching we offer is second to none. We have two top quality coaches who head up the coaching team: John Shaw, Southgate first team player for over 15 years who won over 200 caps for his country and is fantastic at inspiring young people. Martin Foxall, a superb coach of young hockey players who has previously coached teams to win the National U16 Championship and is widely regarded as one of the best coaches of young players in the country. We have a coaching team working under John and Martin, looking after the individual squads and an army of helpers and junior coaches.
