Southgate has a thriving junior section and provides coaching that is second to none. In this section you will find everything you need to know about Southgate’s junior section and how to get your child involved.

We have a waiting list in some age groups. Please email if you would like to be added to the waiting list: firstname.lastname@example.org.
In the summer term, we move everyone into their age groups for next season. This gives the coaches a chance to start work on the squads for the following season.
The biggest change is for those in year 7, who move to the 10.45am session and year 9 who move to the 12.30 session. However, note changes in timings for the first week only, see (2) below
School years 1 & 2 – U8s 9am – 10.30
school years 3 & 4 – U10s 9am – 10.30
School years 5 & 6 – U12s 9am – 10.30
School years 7 & 8 – U14s, 10.45 – 12.15
School years 9 and above – U16s, 12.30 – 2pm
The school years given are the school years your child is currently in, NOT the year they are in, in September.
Southgate’s main junior hockey training takes place every Sunday morning. Training times on a Sunday are as follows:

Although the lock down came close to the end of the season, Juniors in 19-20 missed out on their Summer Term of Sunday morning hockey. This term is relatively short but nevertheless an important part of our hockey year. In recognition of this and understanding that these times are difficult for many, the Management Committee have agreed that the Juniors will able to apply a 10% reduction on their Junior Fees when renewing their membership this season, 20-21. We hope this offer is well received but also we hope you do not mind us suggesting that, to those who can, please consider donating the reduction back to the Club by paying the full Subs in the normal way. This will allow for funds to be built up and invested for the future of Southgate Hockey Club.
Pay your adult fees which will cover membership, adult & junior games and training.
Pay your junior membership and fees and individual match fees will be collected for adult games.
We recommend everyone wears shin pads and a gum shield. We have these available to buy in our shop which is open on some Sundays, advertised in advance. Most players have their own sticks, but we have a supply for those that don’t. Players should wear comfortable sports gear and trainers, not studs.
The coaching we offer is second to none. Our head coach, John Shaw, was a Southgate first team player for over 15 years, won over 200 caps for his country and is fantastic at inspiring young people. We have a coaching team working under John, looking after the individual squads and an army of helpers and junior coaches.
