Ladies 1s and 2s win

Our ladies 1s have collected their first points of the season after a nail-biting 1 nil win over Ipswich. Coach Burkin spent 72 minutes pulling out what few hairs he has left, while his team simply could not find the back of the net. For the first time in a very, very very long time, we managed to keep a clean-sheet. Our newest kiwi, Emily Meredith had a fantastic first outing in defence, and Charlotte Kelly put on a brilliant man-of-the-match performance at right back.

Up front, each shot on goal seemed to either miss by millimetres, or the Ipswich goalie would pull out a miraculous save, leaving the nervous Southgate supporters constantly wondering, “How did that not go in?” As the remaining minutes turned into seconds, Jordan Homman sent the ball straight into an Ipswich foot inside the D to win us a short corner, T-minus 4 seconds to go. The first shot found another Ipswich foot. Up step Katie Hopkisson, with 10 men around the circle edge and everyone else holding their breath, the ball was fired into the bottom left corner. Celebrations ensued.

The Ladies 2nds thumped Eastcote Ladies 1st team 5-0 so after a slow start to the season are now up to 4th with momentum building.

The Ladies 2s displayed one of their best performances this season so far.   The first goal came courtesy of captain Emma Cox with a straight strike from a PC.  Next up was Gabby Greenwood who came through from the defensive line to net a cross.  Charlotte J-P smashed one in from the top of the D.  Gaby M-P scored another with a wonderful finish.  The 5th and final goal came from Mandy Feighery.

Steph Taylor led the defensive line with fearless tackles and marking earning her MoM.
It was a whole team effort of which they should all be very proud.
