Southgate “rain” over Letchworth

Result : Southgate 3-2 Letchworth

Match Report : David Richardson

Following a good win last week the 4As turned up to fortress Snakes Lane with a mixture of trepidation and excitement as they welcomed Letchworth (arguably the strongest team in the league other than the mighty 4As).

Following a lengthy warm up in the changing rooms the weather cleared up just in time for push back.

What followed was an eager 4As on the front foot and working hard to outflank Letchworth with Saj and David working forwards from defense. However like all well laid plans, this one took an early hit as Letchworth opened the scoring, arguably very much against the run of play.

0-1 doh

Exertions were resumed and 4As got a foothold in the match was Alastair rounded off a well worked team goal from open play.

1-1 game on.

What followed can only be classed as a worldy or a goal of the season contender. Will firing a rocket forwards at chest height. ST picking it and deflecting it into space. Jinking the defender both ways before deftly lifting the ball over the on rushing keeper.

2-1 halftime.

The second half even the gods seemed to want to get involved as the rain turned biblical as still the 4As and letchworth scrapped it out. And then came another goal. A short corner routine. A classic zig zag and a goal from a rebound. Alastair of course.

3-1. Yesssssss

Chances at this point came and went. Kyle rounding the keeper but beaten by the angle. Alastair missing a golden chance for a hattrick. James and John repelling wave upon wave of letchworth attack. Then it happened. Letchworth drove the D. Will went full stretch taking the man, the ball and possible his mother. The umpire had a think and came to the conclusion. Yellow card. 5 mins down to 10 men, just hold on Southgate. We didn’t

3-2

What followed was a nervy final 10 mins but full time arrived. Well done and a cracking team performance evidenced by every player getting a MoM vote (other than Alastair) with Saj and David tying for the honour.
