Magnums bring home 2-0 win against Spencer in best performance season to date!

Match Report : Cliff Peck

Result : Magnums 2-0 Spencer

Pre match the opposition tried hard to add to their squad of 14+ by requesting a Tulse Hill player ( having just played against the Titans) join their ranks . Much to their captains dismay the multiple requests were refused without hesitation.

With the light fading , wind blowing across the pitch with a chill factor of -5/6 Magnums set about the task in hand against an ageing but skillfull Spencer side.Magnums , unchanged for the third match running began to show a developing understanding within the squad , passing the ball around the pitch from midfield with some fine play from Ben , Graeme and Colin ( scarface) Warne . Picking out players moving into spaces , we opened up their defence on a number of ocassions but with no end result.

Spencer , dangerous on the counter attack relied heavily on getting the ball to their star player whenever possible. With undoubted technical ability he created most of their attempts on our goal , all of which were thwarted by some excellent tackling by Martin and Jonny  with an outstanding overall performance from Tim G.

Half time 0. 0

With a tweak to our tactics at half time the onus was on cutting out the supply to their star man but also to continue the high standard of play during the first half.

Magnums began to press Spencer back into their own half of the pitch as much as possible .We took the lead with a well worked series of play down our right side culmination in a hard hit ball across the ‘D’ being deflected by a deft touch from Ray B high into the far corner of the net. 1. 0. Magnums .This spurred a bit of a fight back from Spencer with their star player now having to come inside looking for the ball picked it up close to the top of our ‘D’ only to find his route to goal blocked by our keeper who tracked him around the edge of the ‘D’ ending with a frustrated hit wide .This somewhat deflated the opposition and it was not long before we doubled our leaf from a well taken strike by our top scorrer Tony M . 2. 0. Magnums .Another one on one with our keeper resulted in similar fashion with star man hitting the ball wide of the post .

Final result 2.0 Magnums

This was by far the best team performance of our 7 games to date . All squad members gave 100%  effort , some exceptional performances all round .
