A final quarter showdown gives the W1’s their 15th win of the season

This week Southgate W1s were at Lee Valley taking on East London W1s for the second time this season.

The game got underway with both teams determined to be the first on the scoreboard. Southgate had a couple of chances but were denied by the Easts keeper and the first quarter ended 0-0.

It was a cracking hit into the backboard by Jess Olorenshaw in the second quarter that put Southgate into the lead. 1-0. Spurred on by supporters in the stands, East London continued to battle to equalise while Southgate tried to strengthen their lead. But to no avail. Halftime ended 1-0.

The pressure built in the third quarter as again, neither team found the back of the net. The score was still 1-0 going into the final quarter.

Southgate finally found their second goal in the fourth quarter with a wonderful reverse stick shot into the net by Sofia Martin. With goal difference on their minds, Southgate were looking for more.

In the last few minutes of the game, Southgate’s Charlotte Kelly wins a corner and is the person to deflect it past East Londons defensive line to make the score 3-0.

The final whistle blew and Southgate win their 15th from 15th game. They also secured a goal difference of 4 between themselves and Guildford – very important as Southgate face their toughest 3 games over the next few weeks.
