Agatha Christie twists and turns as M4 hang on to avoid relegation in the most unlikely manner

The Mens 4 showed grit and determination in hard fought battle against second placed Hampstead & Westminster in a gallant bid to avoid relegation.

Some stoic defending and awesome goal keeping helped keep scores level until Howard Wilson saw yellow and allowed Hampstead the first blood.

Akshay in goal miraculously kept repeated shots at bay and by the end his efforts led to the grudging applause of the home crowd.

The game ended at 1-0 and the teams gate was thus handed to two other teams battling out across London to stay up. East London managed a big 4-3 win against Wayfarers and just thirty minutes later celebrations rang out as Richmond 3 looked to have beaten Indian Gym by 4-0. Then in a dramatic reversal of fortune a GMS error meant that the score line was turned on its head and with it the M4’s were sunk.

Yet in a triple bluff worthy of John Grisham on Thursday the league intervened to penalise Indian Gym whose resultant points penalty kept the brace M4’s high and dry in Div 2 north. Celebrations are now on hold until End of Season dinner.
