An Interview with Teague Marcano – Southgate’s Goal Scoring Machine!

Teague Marcano is an international player for Trinidad & Tobago and arrived with us this season from playing premiership hockey with Hampstead & Westminster. Since arriving he has made an impression on the pitch with his goal scoring and off the pitch with his popular coaching sessions. I caught up with Teague earlier in the week to ask him how he has been settling in to life at Southgate.

Teague you made quite the impression in your debut for the club scoring 5 goals against Brighton. How are you feeling about the game this weekend?

I am excited for this weekend. It’s been a good Christmas break for the team. Playing a bit of indoor in between would have helped a lot with keeping good touch. And having played 2 premier league teams before returning leaves us in good shape.

How have you settled into life at Southgate?

It’s been so easy to, the club is fantastic. Everyone was very welcoming which helped me settle in quite well. The clubhouse is a social hub which is the life of the club. Having access to the best facilities makes a massive difference throughout. Joining the team and getting to know each one of my teammates was smooth while being guided by Kwan to get us firing.

What have been the highlights of the first half of the season for you?

I would say having an undefeated streak, getting promoted to Div 1 indoor and the support we get day in day out just to name a few.

You’ve recently helped Southgate M1 achieve promotion in the indoor Super 6’s, scoring 30 goals on the way, how did you and the team adapt to playing indoors?

We adapted quite quickly. We didn’t have to change the way we usually would play outdoor by much, which made the transition easier. It was just to get use to playing by competing in training and the tactics came along the way.

You are currently top goal scorer in the league, were you counting your goals and do you feel a pressure to continue to score like that?

Its been a dream scoring a lot of goals but I feel no pressure going into the second half of the season. Yes it feels good to be top scorer but my ultimate goal is for us to continue winning and gain promotion. If it’s me scoring or not would not matter to me.

What’s it like working with your coach Kwan?

It is enjoyable!

Being guided and playing with one of the greatest ever is an honour. He is a mastermind in tactics and tricks which filters into his coaching. He leads by example and his attention to detail is unmatched. Its a lot of hard work at times but always enjoyable. It is what its supposed to be, train and play hard, enjoy doing it.
