BATCHELOR COMES BACK FROM THE DESERT IN STYLE TO SPUR M2’S TO VICTORY AT CHISWICK

Despite fears of frost affecting the pitch, Southgate Mens 2s travelled away to play Chiswick Mens 1s.

Southgate were out of the blocks fast, with Matt Alastair finishing a well worked piece of play by scoring at the back post. In the 5th minute Southgate continued the pressure by winning a PC, which Jonny Maunder converted. Chiswick held strong until the 20th minute when Matt Alastair banged in his second goal of the game to make it 3-0.

Chiswick then stepped up a gear and a few lapses of concentration saw them pull back 2 goals before half time. Chiswick continued the come back and converted a 3rd early in the second half to draw the scores level at 3-3. Southgate realising the need to step up their game, came back hard.

Suddenly, in the 47th minute, out of the desert emerged Tom Batchelor to drive home the 4th goal. Spurred on by Batch’s goal and wanting to avoid a fine for being a non scoring forward, Andrew Westbrook scored the 5th Southgate goal which sealed the game with a 5-3 win.

Great character by all and fantastic to bring home 3 big points.
