DOMINANCE BUT NO CIGAR FOR M2 WHO FALL SHORT TO WEST HERTS IN SEASON OPENER

Southgate Mens 2s travelled away to West Herts to play their eagerly awaited 1st London premier league game of the season.

Aspirations to come away with 3 point were high, however a strong West Herts team had other ideas.

Southgate started strongly and dominated possession, so it was against the run of play when WHs capitalised on a defensive error to score and go 1-0 up.

Not long after the 1st goal, WHs forced a high turnover which led to a PC which WHs converted to go 2-0 up.

Southgate reacted well, and following a great break by Rob Shearer from right back, he carried into the circle to win a PC. Jonny Maunder converted and the score remained 2-1 at half time.

Southgate came out strongly in the second half and again dominated possession, however again were unable to hit the back of the net.

Against the run of play, WHs won and converted a PC mid way through the second half to go 3-1 up.

Southgate won a PC shortly after which resulted in Jonny Maunder upgrading to PS after hitting a WHs defender on the line.

Guilio Ferrini stepped up to convert the PS and bring the score to 3-2.

WHs defence stood strong through the last 5 minutes and despite conceding a couple of PCs, Southgate were unable to score.

The game ended with a disappointing 3-2 defeat for Southgate.

Well done to WHs and to umpires Tim and Laurence, great games all around.
