Howie and Joergen selected for East Masters 0’50’s 16th-18th July

report by Howie Wilson

The Masters Tournament O50 was held on a sweltering weekend at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth hosted by the UK Armed Forces. The East got off to a great start with a solid 3-1 win over the North followed by another win over the UK Armed Forces 1-0. The East then had a long break to the next game and this reflected in a 1-1 draw with the West. The West started well and scored early and despite the East having most of the game after the first 10  minutes we struggled to equalise. In the second half the East equalised and briefly thought we had scored a winner but it was eventually ruled out after an umpire conference. Still at the end of day 1 we were in a good position with the two hardest games to come. So we went Off to the Taj for Curry in good spirits.

Day 2 saw an early start as the East were first on against the Midlands. This was a tougher game, but having learnt from the previous game we were well prepared and ran out 1-0 winners to set up the final game against the South as a winner takes all match. The game against the South was the last game of the tournament and the hottest part of the day!! The East were under some pressure from the start, but fought back well but conceded two goals before the end of the first half. Despite battling hard to get some goals back in the second half the East got caught twice on the break….  and we ran out 0-4. The East ended up runners up, a fantastic weekend meeting many new faces and old. heres to next year!!
