Mens 1s disappointing last minute loss against Sevenoaks was not without a battle

Result : Southgate 1 – 2 Sevenoaks

Match Report : Rob Gill

Goal : Sim Bird

The game begins with excitement as a small crowd behinds to gather. Passing the ball flat was key on this very lively and bouncy pitch. Missed traps and passes were common from both the teams in the opening minutes.

Gradually we begin to warm into the game and string some nice moments of passing together. Both teams yet to create any real chances. Sevenoaks had a couple of moments going forward but never looked dangerous.

Finally the break through. A goal from who else but Sim Bird. As the game continues we enjoy long periods of possession, moving the ball around with speed and intent to go get another.

The first card of the game fell to myself. As I knocked the ball away following a miss trap sending the ball into into my forehead. The second half began with more of the same. Sevenoaks equalised with a short corner conceded by myself.

A lack of clear cut chances plagued both teams heading into the final quarter. As we pushed for the winning goal Sevenoaks broke through a couple times but any threat was swiftly dealt with.

By this point another card shown to a Southgate player. Giles was deemed to be less then 5 yards from the ball as a result, picking up a yellow for his sins.

Heading into the final few minutes of the game Sevenoaks are awarded with a short corner. Tom Barrett was seen to have used his body in the D after stopping the ball from reaching its intended target. Sevenoaks planned their short corner, 2-1, Flick into the upper right hand side of the goal.

The game ended shortly after, not without heart and determination to push for the equaliser. A gutting end to what had been a top class performance. If the team continue to play like that then picking up 3 points will be a common reward.
