Skipper Martins in 5 goal heaven in decisive West Hampstead victory

2-5 win vs West Hampstead M7
match report by Will Hargrove

A good result was needed to kick start the M6s season. Fortunately, that’s is exactly what we got. A solid start saw us keep the ball well. The first goal came early with Rich Martins receiving the ball in the circle, making some space and then swivelling to smash the ball home. The first of the five times he hit the back board. The next came from a short and then another goal from a good move. At three goals ahead after 20 mins we were coasting but with a drop in concentration and a good effort from the oppo it was suddenly 2-3 and close again. A good chat at half time saw us rally and “boss” the second half with a goal in open play and then the last of Mr Martin’s 5 came with 10 to go. A terrific win.

Jon Dann was good in goal and kept the comms going. Raj Saha was industrious and energetic from the right back position. Mat Mitchell and James Rushton were very good in the middle, tackling well and keeping things on the move. On the left of defence Rory Willmott made several telling runs and gave us good width. Moving to midfield Will Hargrove held the middle and other than the odd forced pass had a decent game Alex Prior and Oliver Yaoz were always on the move forward adding to the pressure on the oppo. Prior who has usually played upfront was a threat all game and worked back well. Adam Batchelor in his first game for us was on occasion unorthodox but was very affective indeed and made several useful turnovers. Arun Sharma-Saul spent time between the forward line and midfield and sis well. Felix Rushton put in another good performance and showed both patience and strength. Rich Martins was the man of the match by some way.
