Three goals and three points for L1s in Broxbourne battle

Another fantastic performance by L1s saw them enter the Christmas break sitting third in the table.

On L1captain Lucy Thayer’s wedding day her team did her proud bagging three goals and all three points away at Broxbourne.

Starting the match with one lonely sub on the bench as so many players were guests at Lucy & Tom’s big day, didn’t seem to phase the team. They held their own against an eager Broxbourne attack. Not long after the second quarter started Sarah Williams found the back board after some great build up play down the right flank. A momentary lapse in concentration saw Broxbourne return one down the other end for the first and last time.

Our momentum in the third and fourth quarters proved to be the difference as Southgate found the back of the net twice more. A perfectly placed flick from Katie and an absolute screamer from Carla Johl sealed the deal for the girls after one of the strongest team performances of the season.

L1s leave 2019 in a very strong position at 3rd in the National Conference East, just two points behind the joint leaders. The team will be relieved to have a bit of a breather and play some indoor hockey but keen to get back into the swing of things after Christmas.
