TITANS TAKE TOUGH LOSS AS LOUGHTS LEAVE THEM POINTLESS

Match Report by Benjamin Turner

Old Loughtonians Supervets 3 – 1 Southgate Titans

Buoyed by last Sunday’s great Cup win, and with spirits uplifted by the bright, autumnal afternoon, Titans packed their knapsacks and ventured east to Essex, to seek their fame and fortune.

Injuries still plague the old masters, but a solid core was ably supported by guests Luke C, Giles W, and Randall & “I just can’t get enough” H.

Sharp first half play into the blinding sunlight yielded some good D penetration, that prudish film censors might have branded ‘moderate threat’: think ‘Highlander’- promising soundtrack, but no decent end product. And Old Loughts pacy counter- attacks created chances, culminating in their 1-0 half-time advantage.

Remaining confident in our game plan, Titans continued to press, and did score a fine team goal with incisive, swift passes from left to right across the pitch, forward to the rather unusually positioned Julian at right wing, a touch of skill, and the cross to Greg to deflect to Brian to knock it home.

But by then, a well struck PC and a contentious flick meant Titans days of fame and fortune will have to wait a little longer. Where did that bloody cat go?
