UNBROKEN RUN CONTINUES AS W1’S PULL THEIR PUNCHES IN CLINICAL IPSWICH PERFORMANCE

The W1s took their unbeaten run up the A12 to mid-table Ipswich this weekend. Once ‘one who shall remain nameless’ had sourced some astros, we were all ready! It was a scrappy battle at times with the ball given away cheaply, several heavy falls and many sharp elbows.

We started well, dominating possession and building up patiently, but the Ipswich defending was resolute and the chances didn’t come. The deadlock was broken in the first period when Buzz turned on the jets and was foolishly allowed to run 25 to the baseline, cut inside and lay a ball into the danger area for Connie to sweep in. 1-0.

The second came soon after when an Ipswich injection was missed and with no back-up in place, Amy K pounced and ran half a pitch length unchallenged with Ipswich players desperately trying to keep up with her. Laying the ball out right and two clean passes later the ball came back to Amy K who’d continued her run to the p-spot and she had the composure the stop and lift the ball into the net. 2-0. Second time in two weeks we’ve gone end to end from a short corner mistake and scored.

Our third came in the final quarter after a period where Southgate should have scored more and Ipswich might have done better, but for our solid back line and calm Molly S tidying things up under pressure. Some smart tackling won us possession down the left channel and as the ball came across to Charlotte K it became a one on two with a defender and keeper still to beat. Char let the ball run across her body and dodged the keeper who thought she was going the other way and she neatly tucked the ball into the corner. 3-0 and another job done!

Roll on next week and another bruiser encounter with Stortford coming to our place!
