Cambridge City v Southgate M1 & Men’s round up

Southgate maintained their 100% record with a controlled 4-1 win over Cambridge City, and stay top of the Men’s Hockey League East Conference on goal difference.

Cambridge enjoyed the better start with Euan Gilmour scoring after seven minutes thanks to a quick counter attack. Their lead was sort lived though as Sam Mee equalised for Southgate three minutes later, before Drew Burkin and Kit Cutter scored in quick succession to give the North London side a 3-1 lead.

Southgate continued to dominant for much of the game and had chances to extend their lead, but the last pass or touch evaded them. As Cambridge came forward in the second half, Southgate soaked up everything the home side could throw at them, before  Timmy Smyth extended their lead in the fifty-ninth minute to make it 4-1.

Ultimately Southgate were too good on the day putting in a defensive and midfield master class.
