Cox brace see’s W2’s off to a flying start

Result : WIN 5-2 vs Chiswick 1

Match Report : Lucy Sheffield

The L2s got off to a flying start to their season with a 5-2 win over Chiswick. Returner Jess Hurley opened the scoring in the first half after some silky skills and a rocket like strike!

The L2s piled on the pressure from there, winning lots of the ball high up the pitch and preventing Chiswick from outletting. This pressure was rewarded with a cheeky goal by Caitlin HC who slid the ball past the keeper, following some flair play along the baseline.

Two goals then came in quick succession for Emma Cox, the first being a back foot shot which slammed into the corner of the goal and the second a naughty deflection, after some great work down the left from Emily RH. 4-0 up at half time. The second half was very physical and became a little scrappy at times but also some fabulous hockey was on display throughout.

The final goal came from some excellent midfield link up play with the forwards. Emma Cox received the ball in the D, who laid the ball off to Thayer who was about to shoot but was quickly taken out by a Chiswick defender. Southgate were awarded a penalty flick and Sheff stepped up and calmly slotted in bottom right. A lapse of concentration led to 2 Chiswick goals in the latter stages of the game.

Overall, a brilliant first team performance. Player of the Match went to Emma Cox with special mention to Jess Hurley. Next up, Battersea Wanderers away!

Lucy Sheffield scores off a Penalty Flick.
