High scoring win against depleted Medics side

Result: W5s won 11-0

The fixture against Medics is always a closely fought one with a draw and a narrow win apiece in the last 3 meetings.  With the goal- scoring machine that is Olive James back in the team , we were hoping for plenty of goal opportunities .  The 11-0 score line appears to be a rout but our opposition arrived with only 8 players and it is to their credit that they turned up to play after 4 of their team had pulled out that morning.

The start of the game saw us camped in their half with lots of chances in front of goal.  When Olive jinked her way past the defence we looked set to open the score but the ball slipped tantalisingly wide of the post. Five minutes later Jos made a good run to slot home the first goal, closely followed by Didi opening her tally at the left hand post.  Medics had now warmed  to the task working hard to maintain possession of the ball and it was not until late in the half that Olive secured goal number 3.

This was definitely an opportunity to use the extra time and space to create good passing moves.  There were moments when this happened but it is fair to say that our overall play lacked the  fluency we were looking for.  Nevertheless, this did not prevent the goals from flowing in the second half, Didi and Olive bagging another four each! A big thumbs up to them.  Olive orchestrated many of the moves in the D working well with Didi who was into her stride at the inside post and ready to put the ball away.  The standout goal was a signature strike from Ol into the top right hand corner of the net.

Our WOW was deservedly won by Mon with some solid play in the midfield and a great run down the left to provide a goal assist. A shout out to Kim who touched the ball twice  and Hells with  no touches – not a great deal of fun on a cold January morning.

Despite the discrepancy in player numbers the game was played in very good spirit and it was great to get a much needed win and rack up some goals.  Next up WHE away – after bagging a 3-0 win in October we are hoping for more of the same on Saturday.
