READ HOLDS STRONG FOR MAGNUMS AS THEY TAKE THE WIN AGAINST STRONG AMERSHAM SIDE

Match Report by Martin Cramer

Magnums gained their first victory of the season by beating a strong Amersham and Little Chalfont team who were above them in the league.

Playing in very wet conditions Magnums soon took control of the game with some fluid moves which saw the oppositions defence put under pressure Unfortunately the home side were unable to convert this pressure into goals. Amersham mounted sporadic attacks but these were snubbed out in the midfield.

Half-time arrived with scores level, Magnums made a tactical change switching Graeme Welch and Tony James, this led to more pressure on the Amersham defence. Magnum’s efforts were finally rewarded, following a long corner Tony Mastroddi’s shot the ball rebounded from their goalkeeper to Tony James who forced the ball home.
Magnums continued to press the Amersham defence and their endeavours were rewarded with a penalty corner which was firmly struck home by Patti giving the defenders no chance.

As Magnums tired Amersham grew stronger and mounted several attacks which were stoutly defended with Trevor Read having a standout game in containing their centre forward. Amersham were also helped by some indiscipline from Magnums players who spent some time resting in the dugout.

Over all this was a much better display and we now look forward to our next match against Surbiton.
