Southgate Men’s 4As vs Rickmansworth 1s

(match report by Will Hargrove)

This is the fourth such clash this “season”. The Ricky 1s being a good competitive bunch and pleasant opposition to boot. We travelled away last Friday night to play at the Royal Masonic School. We were goalkeeper-less but even so we had a solid 13 players. We agree to share the keeper and it worked well. We went 1-0 down before Joe Kelly, having a storming first half, scored from left back. From there the scoring went all “Ricky” to see us 3-1 down with about 10minutes to go – but like a phoenix from the ashes we managed to fight back to 3-3 with goals from Alessandro Onano (nice skills) and Hargrove (rather more basic) saw us secure a point. A good game played in good spirits. Arun Solanki impressed in his first runout for us – but suffered a rather nasty blow to the leg. In other areas , Rory Wilmott, James Rushton and Jon “Hud-dog” Huddleston were resolute at the back with Kiran Ghosh and Joe Kelly adding the pace as wingbacks. Midfield was marshalled well by Howie, Ali Priestley and Arun. Upfront we had three different shaped forwards in Will Hargrove, Alastair Whatley and Freddie Trathen but it seemed to work pretty well – you can imagine who ran more! Wiz – who was supposed to be team manager but couldn’t make it- had fortunately performed the one role we needed and booked us a pub for a post match refreshment!
