W1’s MATCH REPORT – 18 Feb 2023

The W1s turned up ready to put on a good show for the balcony spectators, aiming not to get outshone by the remote control car kicking things off at high pace.

We started off quickly in Q1, putting pressure on the Spencer defence and looking threatening, creating a few attempts in attack, rewarded with an early goal coming from a class hit at pace across goal from Elisa Filarmonico tapped home by Emma Mac at the far post. 1-0.

Keeping the momentum going into Q2, Spencer put in a good shift and looked to create some chances of their own, with our Super GK Mollie getting her eye in and stopping any real threats occurring, even with a couple of cards cropping up to keep things entertaining. Still 1-0.

After half time, we decided the score line was a little boring. Ellie Rob started rinsing people for fun in the middle of the pitch, creating some spectacular build-up play, finished off nicely with a Jess Olorenshaw smash into the net, making it 2-0 to the gate.

Going in to Q4, we decided to really switch on and make the goal line a little more impressive, which was coupled nicely with Spencer deciding to take on the role of cones, making for a good show. A fantastic defensive PCD from the good lads, spearheaded by Mollie once again, led to a counter attack goal which can only be described as textbook, with some lovely play by Bobbie and Char Childs giving Filly the perfect ball to slot away for 3-0. A fourth goal came from a reverse across D by Sofia Martin, deflected into the net by Mac (4-0), with a PCA attempt on target finished off with a clean-as-you like reverse from skipper Robbo (5-0). Not quite satisfied, more lovely hockey was on display, with Mac sending a ball across D which was perfectly deflected into the net by Char Childs, ending the game with a sweet 6-0 scoreline.

The good times continued in the clubhouse with Kwan’s rum punch and some questionable limbo abilities, but the night was rounded off nicely with a quite simply superb rendition of Elvis Presley from coach Andy Richardson (making up for his disappointing pint time) – successful day all round.
