Womens 4s emerge victorious for their first match of the season

Having dusted both passports and hockey sticks off – a newly formed w4s team made the long journey to south London.

Sadly, our goalie did not make it and so a hastily re written starting format was devised resulting in a 4-4-3 formation.  3 minutes into the first half a short corner was swiftly converted by Alex and we were 1-0 up.  3 mins after that a quick chip and charge from Millie left the ladies 2-0 up. The goalie was stood down and our frantic captain was left to enjoy her holiday.

There were superb saves from Jo at the back, and relentless pressure from the midfielders resulted in a well worked final goal of the half from Alex meaning we went into half time 3-0 up.

But as is often the way, half time brings a team talk from the opp and with four subs on a warm day they came back fighting and there was a total of 5 goals in a frantic second half.

What can only be described as “an absolute banger “ of a goal from Georgina was followed by an outstanding run down the line and conversion from Lara.

A good start to the season by a team of ladies some of whom were new to the club and many who didn’t know each other and hadn’t played together.  With no goalie and no sub in the second half we were left with a very well deserved and hard fought 5-3 win.
