A hard fought battle and last minute goal secures a 4-3 win.

This morning’s fixture saw another mid table battle between our ladies and a strong Eastcote side. We welcomed new comer Becca into the side and saw the return of Jos and Olive to strengthen our forward line.

Eastcote started strongly with a quick goal inside the first 5mins but our midfielders Jo, Bhu and Sarah battled hard to settle the game – and our defence, Andrea super strong at centre back today, supported by Fi, Niamh, Becca and Kim kept their forwards at bay. The Eastcote defence was well organised and kept our forwards out of the action until a brilliant sprint down the right wing and a clean shot at goal saw Millie equalise three minutes from half time.

Half time 1-1

If we thought the first half had plenty of action it turned out that was just the warm up.  Again, Eastcote came out both strong and physical and our ladies will have bumps and bruises galore for their efforts.  Eastcote secured their second and then quickly earned a penalty flick – surely this was going to give them a 2 goal lead….. but no, Helen in goal proved too much for the Eastcote forward and the score line remained 1-2.

A lovely piece of play from Andrea, Bhu and Didi set up Olive brilliantly who cleanly got the score back to 2-2.  Jos and Jo working hard off the ball to keep us in contention and the team were soon rewarded with a short corner, converted by Olive and at last, the ladies had their first lead of the day 3-2.

But Eastcote weren’t done and with ten mins to play they secured their third and a draw looked likely.

Still playing hard, fuelled by half time jelly babies and marshmellows, with three minutes to go an inspired  right side combo from Andrea to Fi to Millie saw Eastcote panic and Southgate awarded a final short corner.   With the clock ticking, and teas waiting, a sublimely worked piece of play from Olive and Sarah gave Millie her second of the match,  securing a well-deserved and hard fought win for the team.

Final score 4-3
